Yandang Mountai Scenic Area

Situated in the northeastern part of Yueqing City, with a total area of 450 square kilometers, Yandang Mountain, integrating landscape aesthetics with geological science and tourist culture, is one of the first national key scenic areas designated by the State Council. The main peak Beiganjian rises 1,150 meters above the sea level. The Lingfeng Peak, Lingyan Rock and Dalongqiu Fall are key scenic spots in the whole area. The Dalongqiu Fall rushes down from the height of 190 meters into the Dragon Pool. At the beginning of 2005, the mountain was named World Ecological Park and in 2007 was appraised as 5A scenic area.

Nanxi River Scenic Area

Located within Yongjia County, with a total area of over 600 square kilometers, the Nanxi River, reputed as the "cradle of Chinese landscape paintings", was appraised as national 4A tourist area by the National Tourism Administration in 2002. It stretches out for 145 kilometers with meandering water and flourishing forests on both banks, presenting a typical view of river-valley landform. Integrating natural sceneries with idyllic scenes and cultural landscapes, it is famous for its unique features of "clear waters, grotesque rocks, wonderful falls, classic villages and magnificent beaches and forests. Scenic spots are scattered along the river, boasting various kinds of national key protected rare trees, such as Taiwan beech, ginkgo and west Chinese beech. The riverside villages with unique appearance at the foot of the Daruoyan Mountain have preserved ancient pavilions, terraces and towers, Buddhist and Taoist temples, ancestral halls, shrines and memorial archways, which had been built since the Song Dynasty.

The Baizhangji Fall-Feiyun Lake Scenic Area in Wencheng County, 90 kilometers on the upper reaches of the Feiyun River in the southwest of Wenzhou, is one of the national key scenic sites designated by the State Council. It is composed of the major scenic sites, such as Gorge Veranda, Thousand-foot Flying Fall, Heaven Lake, Liu Ji's Home Village, Zhuyang Nine Peaks, Baiyun Nunnery, Tongling Gorge Rock Gate, Double-Dragon Bay and Feiyun Lake and Feiyun Stream, with a total of 1,862 scenic spots and an area of 558.8 square kilometers.

Nanji Islands Marine Nature Reserve

The Nanji Islands Marine Nature Reserve, located on the offshore waters east of Wenzhou, is China's first nature reserve of the island marine ecological system. It is composed of 23 islands, 14 submerged reefs and 55 reefs, with a total area of 20, 106 hectares and a sea area of 19, 071 hectares. Rich in shellfish and algae, it serves as an important shellfish and algae gene bank in China's sea area, with 403 varieties of marine shellfish and 174 varieties of marine algae, making up 20 percent each of the country's total.

Wuyanling Ridge Forest Nature Reserve

The Wuyanling Ridge Forest Nature Reserve in Taishun County covers a total area of 18,861 hectares. Known as a "natural gene bank of species", it boasts 2,150 kinds of plants, accounting for 50 percent of the provincial total. Among them 21 kinds are key protected plants, such as the national second-and third-class key protected tree varieties, Ginkgo biloba and Emmenopterys henryi. Over fifty kinds of animals are under national first-class protection, of which the yellow-breasted pheasant is a world endangered species and the national first-class protected bird. The area is also one of the best-preserved subtropical evergreen broad-leave forest zone in east China.

Puzhuangsuo Castle

The Puzhuangsuo Castle is situated at the foot of the Long Mountain, a branch range of the Binghai-Yuchang Mountain in Cangnan County. Built in 1387 during the Ming Dynasty, it was the famous castle of the struggle against Japanese pirates on the coast of southeast China at that time. Within the castle there are still left the historical remains of the Iron Weapons Bureau. a store-house alley, a stable alley and a racecourse as well as a dohnen and 24 ancient wells. The Yuhai Hall, located in Daoyuan Front Street at the northeast corner of the city proper and founded in 1888 during the Qing Dynasty, is the place where the textual researcher of the late Qing Dynasty Sun Yiran studied and wrote his scholarly works. It is one of the four biggest libraries in Zhejiang Province m modern times, with the collection of eighty or ninety thousand volumes. The Stone-shed Tombs are situated on the Jipan Mountain of Mayu lo,an, Ruian City and on the top of the Long Mountain of Qiancan Town, Pingyang County. In the tombs primitive porcelains and hard patterned potteries have been collected, which were made in the Western Zhou Dynasty.
